A look around Granada Spain
Granada is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The River Darro goes through the center of the city. As a matter of fact, the Darro valley cuts right through the city. So there is a steep decent from the San Nicolas plaza down to the river, followed by a steep climb to get up to the Alhambra. The Alhambra is the fortress walls and palace complex. Construction of the Alhambra is believed to be in the 800’s. Alhambra in Arabic means Red Castle.
The San Nicolas plaza offers amazing views of the Alhambra and mountains beyond.
This is the plaza where Luie gathered up his courage to play his guitar. After he was done playing, he got out his own wallet and brought several of his coins to anther guitar player. The other musician had been walking around the square saying “Algo para musica?” (Something for the music)
Luie was so happy to give him the money. I am so inspired by my amazing boy!
View of Alhambra and the snow covered Sierra Nevada mountains. These mountain peaks are typically covered in snow year round. Skiing is only a 20 minute drive away.
Dave put on his big lens and got this nice shot.
Then we walked down into the valley to explore.
The River Darro.
Down in the valley, there are many shops filled with a variety of interesting and exotic things.
I just love these colorful lamps from Turkey. Dave loved the leather from Morocco. Summer loved the funky pants and dresses, and Luie loved the wooden whistles.
Walking up the hill toward the Alhambra, we turned around to see the view of the plaza where we started. (The tall bell tower is next to the San Nicolas plaza)
We only had time to just walk around the Alhambra, not to go inside. But it was a nice walk around.
Back at our starting point, we see the lights illuminating the Alhambra. Beautiful!
