Ice Cream in Granada Spain
Helados San Nicolas
We had planned to spend the day in beautiful Granada. Several days before our trip, Summer did some research and found out about a special ice cream shop. This shop has an excellent reputation and is know for its high quality. So Summer emailed the owner, Aurelien, who turned out to be very nice. He said that the shop is not open as often during the winter, but he would open the shop for us! How lovely!
We walked through the narrow streets of Granada, and came upon this beautiful overlook. And look at that, on the street below the overlook is Helados San Nicolas. What a nice location.
Aurelien was warm and welcoming and encouraged us to try as many flavors as we wanted before we made our final choices.
There are so many great flavors to choose from. I cannot remember all the flavors, but here are the ones that I do remember: Nutella, chocolate, mango sorbet, lemon sorbet, peach sorbet, turron, oreo, honey-date-orange blossom, pistachio, orange blossom-cream….Mmmmm!
All the ice cream is home-made using all fresh, natural ingredient with no additives.
Helados San Nicolas has two shops, one above and one below. The shop below is only open during the warmer months, but Aurelien took us down for a tour. He showed us how he makes the ice cream. And the special things they do to maintain the highest quality.
This is the front of the lower level ice cream shop. During the warmer months, they have tables and chairs outside
This is Ludovic. Both he and Aurelien are originally from France. They opened these shops about one year ago. They speak French, Spanish, and English.
We enjoyed our ice cream, but we also very much enjoyed visiting with Aurelien and Ludovic. It turns out that Aurelien used to be a physicist. He quit everything for this new venture. He is also a painter of contemporary art, and a musician, as well as the creator of new exciting ice cream flavors.
I would highly recommend stopping and getting ice cream at Helados San Nicolas, if you are in Granada, Spain. And while you are there, be sure to say hello to Aurelien and Ludovic!
