Norwich UK
The Forum is a public building that has a library, restaurant, cafe, shop, BBC East, open gallery and more. This is where we parked and started our walking tour of Norwich.
Just across the pavement from the Forum is the St. Peter Mancroft church. Building on the church started in 1430. For perspective, that is about 60 years before Columbus first set sail in 1492.
Also, just in front of the Forum was this ski slope experience. It looked like a white fabric that moved on a conveyor belt. Not my cup of tea, but it was busy with customers.
The Norwich Market is a bit famous. It is the largest Monday-Saturday open air market in all of England. The market has been in this location for more than 900 years. I am still always struck by the amazing history in Europe.
In the photo above you can see the steeple to St. Peter Mancroft church. The market is located just off to the side. It is nice when so many things are located close by.
Street view while walking along towards Old Town.
Doesn’t this little tea and cake shop look inviting? Oops, I mean tea and little cakes!
Norwich Castle was built by the Normans as a royal palace about 900 years ago. Today it is a museum and art gallery. We did not tour the museum though. Entrance fees add up quickly and we have already seen many wonderful museums. These days we are more interested in wandering around the city, taking photos, and just enjoying the atmosphere.
About one block away from the castle is the Castle Mall. There is a lot of shopping choices here. And it is very busy since we were visiting on the weekend and during the after Christmas sales.
Pasties are a south west regional popular food. So I was happy to see a Pasty Co. here in the East. Summer has made pasties for our dinner several times, but it would have been fun to try these. We were not hungry when we walked passed. But a couple of hours later, all I could think about was those warm savory pasties.
We continued to wander and came across a pretty little park. A nice place to chill out for a while, away from the hustle and bustle of the busy shopping areas.
End of the day, we returned to the Forum. There was a lot that we missed in Norwich. I would have loved to see some of the canals and bridges. But daylight hours are limited and we were satisfied with our explorations. Oh yeah, and we were hungry. Time to head back home.
Loved this whole post, but the tea and little cakes shop was way over the top!! Wanted to go in there so badly. That little shop seemed like the England of my dreams!
Susan, I thought of you and Lorie when I saw that shop. I knew you would love it!
