Tecklenburg Germany

There are many great things about having friends show you around.

1.  You get to see places off the beaten track.  Like this place in the woods around Tecklenburg.

2.  Also, hearing the history of the area.

We enjoyed hearing the story about this place, called “Witch’s kitchen.”  Where witches would collect herbs and stuff to make medicines.  Dave joked, that today we call them Naturopaths.

The rock formations and trees give this place an enchanted feel.

The Wier Tower was built by the town in honor of Dr. Wier, who was an activist to stop the burning of witches.

The theater is quite popular and has plays through the summer.  My friend told us about when she was a little girl and used to play parts in the summer plays.  It was fun to see the dressing rooms and where they would go to get ready for their part on stage.

Tecklenburg Germany pottery

There is a very charming pottery shop in Tecklenburg.  Just outside the old shop there are these displays of pottery and plants.  I just loved them.  They are fantastic and really eye catching.

Tecklenburg homes

You can see there is a lot of charm to the houses and buildings in the little village.

Tecklenburg lunch

We enjoyed wonderful meals with our friends.  Trying new foods, sharing experiences, and just enjoying each others company.  We learned more about Germany by having this rich experience.

They also told us about a water castle that was within walking distance.

Tecklenburg ancient little church

Another walk brought us through  some woods in another direction.  This time we found a very old church.

Tecklenburg Water Castle

Walking further down the trail, and there it is, the water castle.  My friend said that during the winter, the water freezes, and she used to ice skate on it.  Doesn’t that sound fun!
