Celebrating 60 years of Bled Cream Cake
A celebration of cake! The kids were thrilled. While we were in Bled, we were lucky enough to be able to participate in the celebration of the 12 millionth original Bled cream cake, kremsnita.
During the celebration, they offered the original Bled cream cake, and two new variations. Summer wanted the original and the boys tried the berry. The original is like a thick creamy custard and we liked it better than the berry. They also had a chocolate variation, but we did not try it.
There was also a band, several dance performances, and people lined up for cake.
We were lucky enough to get there early and get seats inside.
It seems to be part of the tradition, to visit Lake Bled and to eat kremsnita. What a great way to spend an afternoon. We always feel lucky when we happen upon a celebration that we were not expecting. We also love how the memories of each place we visit are richer because of the flavors associated with our experiences.
A sip of hot chocolate, a bite of creamy cake, the band playing, and the amazing view of Lake Bled. Add to that, Luie’s chocolate mustache and Summer’s happy chatter (dessert always makes her happy and chatty), and we were a happy family.
For a recipe for kremsnita, I found someone else posted it on their blog.
Hey darling family, you look a little chilly. The cake festival looks like a fine find! Haven’t been in touch for awhile. Will do a e mail real soon.
I had the cream cake for the first time on a visit to Lake Bled. Oh
it was so good wish we could get some here in the US. I am trying to look for a website that has the chocolate candy from the store across the street from you. It was good like the cream cake.
We just have to plan a visit again.
Yes, this place is definitely worth more than one visit.
