Dinner in Bale, Croatia
There are many benefits to traveling in the off season. One of the latest benefits that we have enjoyed, is the gift of a free dinner after spending a week at our campground. We also got a free night’s stay.
But, this is all about dinner! We ate at Konoba Bembo.
Dave got beefsteak with pasta. Once again, he was very pleased with the delicious tenderness of his steak.
Summer got gnocchi with truffles. She just loves truffles. She also loves pasta, but she decided that gnocchi might actually be too much for her.
Luie is my all American boy. He ordered the burger and fries. I would have been surprised if he would have eaten half of it. But that kid was determined to eat it all. And what do you know, after about an hour of working on it, and sharing some fries with the rest of us, he proudly finished it all.
The thick red dip inside the lettuce leaf was a roasted red pepper sauce. When we first looked at it, we thought it was like ketchup, but the red pepper sauce was so much better. I wish I had asked them how it was made.
I had a special kind of homemade pasta with (local Istrian specialty) sausage and mushrooms.
After dinner we sampled a blueberry and a honey grappa. The blueberry was quite good, although very sweet, but that is just the way grappa is. When we asked about how the blueberry grappa was made, they said that they get it from Motovun!
After dinner we strolled through the small village of Bale, Croatia.
This tiny church dates back to the 1500’s.
Inside the little church.
The bell tower in the center of town stands several stories higher than the other buildings. It is easily seen from the road and makes a nice first impression of the village.
Thanks for reading and keeping up with us!
Coming soon, our trip to Pula and the Roman Amphitheatre.
