Tasting Motovun Croatia

Samples.  The whole family loves to try samples.  Luie used to shout “SAMPLES!” whenever we pulled into the Costco parking lot.  So the chance to try local fresh pressed olive oil, olive oil with white truffle, raspberry honey, wine, grappa, etc.  Just too good to pass up.

 

The kids loved dipping their bread in the olive oil with white truffle.  I have to admit it was divine!  The owner of the store was extremely friendly and helpful.  He explained that the oil with white truffle was not for cooking, but it is best as a condiment for bread, meat that is already cooked, salad, pasta, etc.

We also sampled each of the above truffle combinations in a jar.  Each one was quite good.  Even my little Luie loved them.  We sampled them on bread and the owner said that while they are good on bread, they are even better mixed with cream and poured over fresh pasta.  Sold!  That sounded delightful, so we left with a jar and big plans.

The owner is on the far right.  He is multi-lingual and very friendly, generous, and helpful with all samples and suggestions.  We very much enjoyed our time and all our tastings!  And we would recommend his store for anyone that is interested in tasting the local flavors.  He takes time with each customer.

The kids enjoyed sampling the honey.  One was apple flavored and the other was raspberry.  The raspberry was a favorite with both kids.

There were also samples of “Grappa, and Liker.”  It was a surprising variety of flavors.  There was mistletoe, fig, cherry, pear, orange, etc.

I will be doing a post in the future on the top 5 Things to Do in Motovun Croatia, and stopping in the shops and tasting is definitely in the top 5.

There are many other stores that also have free tastings, but this one was our favorite.
