You don’t need to spend long in Istria Croatia before you see and hear about the famous truffles. The Motovun forest is one of the top truffle regions in the world.
We talked to some locals to get recommendations on a local specialty foods. We were told to try the homemade pasta with the truffle sauce. Yup, that sounded good to all of us. Except Luie, who really was not convinced that truffle mushrooms were something that he wanted.
The pasta turned out to be fantastic with a smooth, rich, and creamy sauce topped with thinly sliced truffles. Wow! Even Summer, who has been picky about mushrooms for years, was completely smitten. She slowly ate every bite, trying to make it last longer. It was fun to watch her close her eyes as she would eat. And yes, Luie was finally won over after several tentative bites.
I am trying to think of how best to describe the taste of the truffles, but I cannot. They have a rich taste unlike anything I have tasted before.
Dave also wanted to try the Istrian beef steak. He was kind enough to share, and we all agreed that it was extremely good!
We enjoyed a beautiful sunset view as we savored our dinner.
I have read that eating out in Istria Croatia is always good. The restaurant that we ate at was Pod Voltom in Motovun. They have indoor seating as well. But the view from the outside tables is stunning.
