Always a sucker for a good local market
While we were waiting for our engine to be repaired, our hosts informed us about a local market in the town of Bulle. They said it would be well worth a visit, as it had a good variety of local foods, cheeses, clothes, and crafts. So when Thursday arrived, we jumped in our borrowed car and drove into town.
It turned out to be a charming little town, and a nice little market. It is always nice when the market is not too busy, and we can slowly explore without being pushed around by the crowds.
There was a great variety of fresh fruits and produce. Everything looked so good.
Nancy and Summer enjoyed looking at all the various clothes, purse and shoe offerings. They did have some unique designs.
Summer is really into purses, and Nancy loves bags, so there was much available to catch their eyes.
Of course, being Switzerland, there was a lot of local cheese to try. We tried a couple, and ended up buying a couple. We purchased a 24 month aged Gruyere that was incredible, and a whiskey cheddar that was also surprisingly good. I think the Gruyere we purchased there was the best tasting Gruyere I had ever had.
After the market, we roamed a bit around town. We thought this was a very creative plant holder. It seems like every town in this area has its own castle.
One thing that really stood out in this town was the way people are directed through the town. As you get into town, there are lines on the street that are various colors. Each line leads you to a sight that you may want to see. There were barrels in different places showing you where each color would take you. No getting lost trying to find a sight in Bulle!
We enjoyed our visit, and even had some time for Luie to play in the local park. The weather was beautiful, also. You can’t beat a good local market to experience the flavors of the region.
