Villefranche France
Written by Dave: On our way to Monaco, we saw a beautiful small town situated by a bay full of sailboats. The announcement on the train said it was Villefranche, and we decided that we needed to visit. On our return from Monaco, we hopped off at the Villefranche stop. It was just a short walk into town through quaint streets. The beach looked very inviting, but we decided to explore the town first.
It was a beautiful sunny day, and the water was many shades of blue.
There was a beautiful walkway along the Mediterranean, with beautiful panoramic views. This is a view looking back over Villefranche as we approached Fort Liberia.
You could spend quite a bit of time in Fort Liberia itself. It was built to protect the town of Villefranche, and currently has beautiful gardens and museums. Unfortunately we arrived 15 minutes before it closed. We took a quick tour, but still were able to see a bit.
As you entered, you passed by a display of numerous types of pottery found while diving near the town.
The garden was a nice location for some portrait photos.
We left the fort and headed back into town. We walked through some beautiful streets on our way back through town.
There was a nice little pedestrian zone that you run into frequently in French villages. There is shopping and dining on the street.
We stumbled on a small art gallery featuring two different artists. I found the paintings depicting the various beach scenes playful and entertaining.
On our way back to the train, Luie was begging to walk on the beach. We went down to briefly explore before riding the train back. There was a beautiful sandy beach there, but it was starting to get chilly and we needed to go back to the camper. It is fun to try new places on the spur of the moment. You never know what you may discover.
Oh yeah, I like those “playful” horizontal stripes on the “older” bathing beauties. Glad to see your adventure is continuing. hugs to all. b
Yes, you are right. But I didn’t post photos of the more “playful” paintings in the series. Glad to have some wifi again to get more posts up.
