Cannes France
We started our day exploring the old town quarter, Le Suquet, on the hill.
There are great views of Cannes from atop the hill.
We then meandered through narrow little streets filled with shops and cafes on our way downtown. This is a touristy city and the prices reflect that.
The patisseries and boulangeries are more tempting in France than anywhere else we have been. But today we came prepared with a picnic lunch and did not stop, just walked by longingly.
The Allee des Stars are famous hand prints in the sidewalk next to the Claude Debussy Theater.
Summer compares her hands to Julie Andrews.
The Cannes Film Festival
The Cannes Film Festival is held every May. We had not made plans to be here at this time, but, like my painting teacher used to say, “It was a lucky accident!”
They are preparing for the film festival. It begins May 15th. I must admit that Summer and I are both hoping to see some movie stars! Wish us luck.
As you might expect, there are some nice big hotels across the street from the beach.
On this stretch of beach, there are private areas set up with shade, chairs, restaurants, etc. You have to pay to enter this area. But there are also open public areas along the beach.

Hello David,
It’s your childhood friend, Heather. I’ve been following your blog and am excited to see you are in France. My husband and I will be on our boat, traveling through Burgundy, Paris and Champagne for the next three months. Is there any chance our paths might cross? We’d love to see you and your family!
Safe travels, Heather
Hello Heather, it’s been a long time. We will be in the Cannes region for about a month, then we go up to the French Alps near Geneva to meet up with my nephews and niece. Just found out they will be here, so we are going to meet up at their grandparents house. From there we head through northern Italy on our way to Croatia to leave the Schengen zone, as our 90 days will be up. That would have been fun if our paths would have crossed. Do you come to France for three months every year? Sounds great traveling France in a boat.
Dave
Hi David,
Sorry if this posts twice. I got an error the first time.
I don’t know if our paths will cross or not. We are now on central Bourgogne and will end our cruising season near Dijon. I don’t know if you will pass that far west on your way to Italy.
We plan to cruise for as much time as we can next year. I hope it is three months!! We would love to meet up with you and your family.
Cruising on a boat is much like cruising in a camper, only slower.
We really admire you taking your whole family on this adventure! It’s something priceless for all of you.
Great travels, and I hope we see you! Heather
