The kids wanted to make sure that we climbed up to see the monkeys one last time before leaving Gibraltar. It turned out to be a beautiful sunny day. Since it was a weekday, there were no crowds and the monkeys were in a good mood. Summer and Luie were both hoping to have a monkey jump on their backs.
Dave said that the monkeys have strong little fingers that try to pry your hands open.
This monkey stayed on Summer’s shoulders for a long time. He pulled out her barrettes and messed up her hair. Then he reached down to get her ring. Summer was so happy to have a monkey friend, that she stayed still and laughed through the curious monkeys antics.
Luie was talking to the monkeys and after the one moved off his lap, he looked to the next one and said, “OK, now it’s your turn!”
I also had a monkey jump on my back. It was a surprise. Dave was getting into the backpack that I was carrying. And the monkey thought he would just help himself to the leftover picnic inside. So there are no photos because Dave was trying to protect me and the backpack. Summer and Luie thought the whole situation was hilarious and stood there laughing.
What an experience of a lifetime! I sure would have liked to see pictures of the monkey on you back too, Nanc!
Yeah, that probably would have been pretty funny!
That’s great! They got brave enough and did it! Looks like luie was giving a bedtime story. :).
Yes, they worked up their courage and were both quite determined!
