Dragon Fruit or Pitaya as it is called in Spanish, is our next tasting adventure. Dragon Fruit is a cactus fruit and therefore grows in tropical climates.
There are several varieties and colors of Dragon fruit, including red, white, and yellow. I looked for different recipes online and was surprised how many I found. There are recipes for salads, desserts, sorbets, smoothies, etc. If we had a blender I would have loved to try a smoothie. Here is a recipe for a coconut, dragon fruit, and kale smoothie that looked good.
The outer skin of the Dragon fruit is firm and made a nice little serving container. It is easy to scoop out the seedy fruit. The flavor was very mellow and subtle and similar to kiwi.
Summer wanted to try a salad with the dragon fruit. She has been enjoying cooking and experimenting with foods and recipes. Another of her experiments on the plate is fried plantains with chili and herbs. The other items are digestive biscuits, apple slices, and a peanut butter dip for the apples.
I hadn’t heard of dragon fruit until I was served dragon fruit herbal tea at a bridal shower tea party. It was delicious. That was only a couple weeks ago and then I read about it in here today. I think this particular herbal tea came from Italy, brought back by our niece on a trip there right after Christmas.
