Written by Dave: From the top of The Rock, we noticed a nice park like area near the base of the Gondolas. So we were anxious to explore and see what was there. It turned out to be the Gibraltar Botanic Gardens. These gardens are free and a great way to spend an afternoon. The rain cleared up and the sun came out, so we decided to go check it out. There is a nice collection of plants from Spain, North Africa, and other surrounding areas.
There are also some good panoramic views to be had of the surrounding areas. There are a variety of trails and ways to walk through the park to get different perspectives on the plants.
There are also many places to sit and eat, rest, or even just relax and read. We saw someone sitting on a bench in a secluded area just reading and enjoying the sun and ambience. It is a nice quite place to get away.
There are also several memorials scattered throughout the garden. They are dedicated to different military leaders.
The gardens were filled with many places that provided good photo opportunities. The whole family was snapping pictures as we walked through the gardens.
With so many subjects to photograph, we were given many opportunities to experiment with our cameras.
Luie was a good sport throughout, but knowing the playground was inside the gardens was hard for him. He kept feeling the playground calling to him, so we promised to stop for a bit on our way out. He did get impatient with our frequent photography stops at times, and kept urging us on to the play area.
We stayed until sunset, and then made our way back home for some dinner. It was nice to have the clouds part, sun come out, and day warm up. We continue to enjoy our daily adventures and exploring.
