On our last day before leaving Spain we took a trip to Almería Spain to visit the Alcazaba Castle. The landscape on the road east from Nerja to Almeria is much different than to the west. We probably saw thousands of plastic covered fields. It turns out that the area around Almeria grows much of the produce to supply Europe. http://geographyfieldwork.com has an interesting article about these greenhouses.
This is the view as we drive into Almería from the west side. The city is to the left and the harbor is to the right.
The Alcazaba castle sits up on the hill and is easily seen when driving into town. We found parking at the marina and walked up to the castle. Sadly we did not do our homework before leaving, and it was closed on Mondays. Oh well. We enjoyed walking around it and taking pictures, then exploring Almería.

The Cathedral.
During our exploring, we learned that many places in Almería have been used in the movies. Click HERE to see a list of some of the movies. Unique-Almeria.com also has an interesting article about movies in Almeria. We had a wonderful time in spite of missing out on the Alcazaba Castle.
