Malaga is the capital of the Costa del Sol. It is a large city with a population over 500,000. We decided to take a day trip and see what we could find. It is never easy to find parking in the city, but having a camper makes it even more complicated. We found a spot near a delivery truck and a man help guide us into the spot. We questioned whether it was OK to park there, but he said that we could park there until 6:00pm, for 2 euros. So we paid and walked away. But Dave had a funny feeling that something did not seem right. So we stopped in a little nearby café and asked about the parking. He said that parking there was for delivery only and that we should park at the marina. Dave thinks that we were suckered by a homeless man. Oh well, we got back in and navigated through some very narrow streets until we made our way to the marina. The marina had good parking and we learned a lesson. After that we enjoyed walking around and discovering Málaga.
Behind the fountain you can see some of the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle. Alcazaba was built in the 11th century and Gibralfaro was built in the 14th century.
This photo is taken at the side of the City Hall in a beautiful garden. The roses were trimmed back this time of year, but it was still beautiful.
I love this shot. It makes me smile every time I see it! This is a statue of El Biznaguero, a young man who sells the biznaga. Biznaga is sold during the summer in Málaga. As a matter of fact, it is unique to Málaga. It is a thistle plant that is dried, then individual jasmine flowers are placed inside the ends of the thistle stem until it is covered. Sellers of biznaga walk along the streets selling the flowers and sharing the scent of jasmine.
We enjoyed a nice dinner at a little café. The kids especially enjoyed their chocolate con nata, hot chocolate with cream. It was rich and delicious. We wish we would have remembered to take a photo. Dave had a spicy garlic pasta, the kids shared a pizza, and I had tomato basil pasta.
We enjoyed the charm of the historic district and could have easily spent more time there. If we do get another chance to go, we will visit the inside of the Alcazaba and Roman theater.
Loved the picture of Luie!
Me too! And Luie laughs every time he sees it!
Oh I hope you return again to such a beautiful city, I’d love to see the Roman theatre. Perhaps your Drama King” Luie would like it as well?!! Ha ha A great look alike Luie. Annette. Steve really laughed when he saw the picture.
Unfortunately it doesn’t look like we will make it back there, but we are consoling ourselves that there will be many more ruins for us to explore in other places. Luie says he is glad he could make Steve laugh!
