Written by Dave:  We have been trying to get into the church the last few days to see the nativity scene that we have been told we need to see.  Our timing has been off, and each time it has either been locked or busy with a service.  Today we got lucky, and found the church open.  Armed with our camera, we went in to take a look.

The church was actually much larger on the inside than it looked from outside.  It was fairly dark, with minimal lighting and no windows.

The nativity scene was set in the back of the church in an alcove.  It was decorated with live olive branches, and some small live plants.  There even was a small stream in the scene.

It is difficult to see all the details in the dim lighting, but we didn’t want to use the flash as there were people in the church worshiping.  In the background of this picture is Pilot and the Roman guards.

As we are in a wine producing country, I guess it was fitting to include people stomping grapes.  It was fun to see all the little details they included in the scene.  We heard they did a living nativity, but we didn’t get out to see it.

In Spain, the main Christmas decoration in homes, schools, etc is the Nativity scene.

  1. That is absolutely beautiful and amazing. It must have been great to see it in person. Good for Spain! I think that is touching and wish we did more of that here in the States. I’ve got some grapes to do the grape tradition for New Year’s but will have to skip the red underwear!

    1. Yes, I totally agree. How fun that you are incorporating some new Spanish traditions. Summer asked if we would continue with some of these new traditions that we are learning about, and I think we will. It will be a special meaningful family memory.

  2. Hi! =) I finally got your “address” from Shellie, and have now read your adventures from the start. What a phenomenal experience! I am so glad for you all!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, my friends! – What a great way to go “out with the old and in with the new”! Reading your entries and seeing all the pictures has inspired to me, and I think I will have to ramp up my goals for 2013! =)
