In our little village we have little mom and pop food markets, but in the larger towns there are grocery stores. This is Carrefour, a grocery store chain that we got familiar with in France. One interesting, and I think brilliant idea is the cart system. In order to use a cart you have to put a 50 cent piece into the cart to release the lock. Once you return the cart your money is returned to you. We have not seen a stray cart yet! Also, most people bring their own reusable bags. If you don’t have a bag for your groceries, you can buy one. For this reason, we have also not seen any plastic bags littered about.
This is a smaller store, but this entire isle is dedicated to olive oil! How awesome is that!
I have mentioned before how much the Spanish love pork. These pig legs are everywhere.
Another interesting thing we noticed throughout Europe, is that the eggs are fresh and not refrigerated. It took us a long time to find eggs when we first got to Europe, because we kept looking in the refrigerator section.
Also, the milk is not refrigerated. It is long shelf life milk.
This is kind of a unique post. But I find it so interesting to go into the grocery store and see the differences.
I remember Greg told us that was the way they bought the milk in France too. I believe they shopped almost daily for fresh foods. Must have not tended to stock up the way we like to do!

Some call plastic bags the state bird of Texas as we see the flying over the swimming pool.
Yes, we tend to do fresh shopping daily or every other day here too.
Loved the glimpse into everyday life in Spain.
I had heard in South America that they don’t refrigerate eggs which makes sense I guess you find them out on the farm laying around outside and eat them. 🙂 but milk. I’m not so sure that would be good. The kids thought the pigs leg was gross. LOL Isaac said it gave him goose bumps looking at it. hahaha. He almost pasted out at the VET school where they showed a picture of cow muscle. hahaha he has no stomach for it. There are no hopes of him being in the medical field. hahaha.
that is really interesting about the grocery stores. Seems weird about the milk. Is it COW milk? Anyway, loved the comment from Kim about Isaac almost “pasted out” at first i couldn’t figure out what that was until i realized she meant passed out, lol, too funny. I am also grossed out by the pork legs, YUCK.
Yes, it is cow milk. LOL, I read Kim’s comment so quickly that I didn’t even notice the missed spelling.
