Balcony of Europe. While walking around Nerja I saw signs for Balcon De Europa. Curious, we followed the signs. Wow! What a great surprise! This place has stunning panoramic views. There are shops, cafes, and hotels near by, as well as beaches on either side. The location is used for concerts and fiestas throughout the year. I did some research when we got home and found out that this place used to be a fortress designed to keep out British pirates.
Look at the beautiful detail of the steps that lead down to the beach!
The Balcón de Europa was made famous by King Alfonso XII, who was king of Spain from 1874 to 1885.
We originally went into town to do some shopping. We were looking for watercolor supplies, boots, etc. But one thing we really appreciate about our traveling, is not having to rush to keep up with an agenda. Having the time to explore and experience has been wonderful for our entire family. We are just beginning to learn the art of “stopping to smell the roses.” It seems like it should be easy, but it doesn’t come naturally. My brother-in-law Greg really knew how to live in the moment. When he would tell me stories of his adventures, I was always amazed. If I were in those same situations, I know that my outcome would have been different, because I would have been too focused on the finish line to take the time to enjoy and experience where I was. So I have to say Thanks Greg, for opening my eyes to the possibilities.
Such pretty scenery. Must be like a dream !!
That is exactly how it feels sometimes! Thanks for your comment.
Wow that looks like a wonderful place!
spectacular!!!! in a nutshell. What at amazing time you are having. I would so love to relax and just live in the moment like that, these last 8 months have been so stressful for me, with all that has happened to mom, it is affecting my health, i would love to be able to unwind like that.
