Andalusia is full of little white villages. While in Marbella, we did some research and found this little village of Ojen just a few miles away. Situated on a hillside, the narrow streets are better for walking than for big campers. So we parked on the edge of town and walked in. This is low season, even in southern Spain. Ojen was a pretty quiet village during our visit, which was also during siesta, which probably explains a little as well. Most stores in Spain close from about 12:00 to 4:00 for the afternoon siesta. Then they open up later in the evening. Most of the restaurants don’t even start serving dinner until 9:00pm.
We enjoyed exploring Ojen, and plan to explore more little white villages. They have a certain charm and the beautiful flowers and trees add to that charm. We were able to find a tiny little grocery store where we bought a baguette, some tortas’, and some chocolate truffles that Summer talked us into.
Is Summer able to speak the language here and be readily understood?
Summer has been translating for us, but she tends to be a little timid about it.
Looks beautiful and sounds a lot like the Mexican Siesta, businesses close at noon, open at 4 and party all night. No wonder they need the siesta lol. We miss you guys and your kids are getting tall! 🙂
Hi Marlien, Thanks for the comment! Yes, we are loving the daily siestas! Miss you guys too!
Their evening meal not until 9pm? Good hours for teenagers.
We still stay on our normal schedule, since we are making our own food and not eating out. But yes, it is a good schedule for teenagers, lol!
wow Summer and Luie are looking so grown up. We are missing you guys!
