One of the benefits of our Southwest travels has been visiting with friends and family along the way. It was another beautiful sunny day in Arizona and our friends Darwyn and Gem knew of a community aquatic center. What a refreshing way to spend an afternoon! We played tag, swam in the lazy river, went down the water slide, and visited.
This water slide had shorter height requirements and Luie actually met them. We were all excited and went to the top together. But once at the top, Luie decided he was not ready to try it. He walked all the way back down. Knowing that he would love it if he just tried it, I bribed him with the promise of a cookie. I know, I know, I cringe just admitting it. I should not use food as a reward and I shouldn’t bribe my kids. But desperate times…… Anyway, it worked! Look at that satisfied grin!
What a happy brave boy! After going down once, he decided it was so fun, that he continued to go down continuously for the next half hour.
Sometimes all any of us need is a nudge in the right direction. (And a cookie!)
This was a saline pool, which we all loved. It is much easier on the eyes, and both my kids love to open their eyes under water. Also, you don’t get that nasty chlorine on your skin and swim suit.
After a day swimming in the sun we were tired and hungry. So Darwyn and Gem treated us to Chipotle. And Gem introduced to me to delights of a barbacoa salad. Yum! My mouth is seriously watering right now as I type. I wish I would have thought to take pictures of us there. Anyway, if you are ever at a Chipotle and you like shredded beef with a nice spicy kick, than you should definitely try the barbacoa!
