I find that history is getting more interesting the older I get. And museums call to me in a way they never did when I was younger. So I couldn’t resist an abandoned old west mining town. From 1862 – 1979 the silver and lead mines at Castle Dome thrived. In 1979 when silver prices dropped to an all time low the mines were closed. Now Castle Dome City is a ghost town museum. You actually step into history while you explore over 37 restored buildings full of artifacts.
The Hotel
Dave and I thought the old hotel was full of character and charm.
Luie liked the little school room the best.
Summer was most interested in the Mercantile.
The owner of the museum mentioned that these old authenticated Levi’s are valued at of $50,000.
I found this museum so fascinating that I took over 130 photos. I was surprised by the ceiling detail and ornate wooden furniture. Walking through the old buildings filled with antique furnishings, really brought history to life.
Hi you guys! I’m loving your blog! Kelly forwarded your link so that I can follow your journey too 🙂
This is some great stuff. Plus, it’s great to ‘see’ you all again. What an adventurous family you are!
Love, Mandy :o)

Love, Nancy
I have always been fascinated with history, even when I was very young, and would I ever have liked to be there with you! I loved Luie and Summer’s picks too, and the levis are fascinating…such an important part of American history and building the railroads.
Oh Susan, I know that you would have loved it!
Thank you, Nancy and Dave, for all your interesting trips. I’m learning so much.
Thanks Bonnie! We like to add interesting facts, but don’t want to make it too boring.
Owner is very rude. He thinks he owns the whole desert landscape. A group of us visiting from out of state were blocked in by the owners golf cart and he proceeded to yell at us for not paying the exorbitant $10.00 per person fee. He said that if we did not want to pay it, to get the hell out of here! He said it was a fee area and that we had no business taking any pictures of anybody or anything near his property. (this is a direct contradiction to what his wife told us when we entered the gift shop) She told us to take as many pictures as we wanted. He will not take credit or debit card. One of our fellow visitors wanted to buy a hooded jacket in the gift shop and was told they they would not accept anything but cash. Seems to me that MR RUDE BUSINESS OWNER wants just cash so he doesn’t have to report it to the IRS. Maybe he needs a visit and audit from the taxman. Anyway, BEWARE!!! Rudest person I’ve had the privilege to deal with in a long time!!!
