Dr. Beach listed Coronado Beach as America’s best beach for 2012. So we decided to check it out. The bridge to get to Coronado Island is pretty impressive.
Coronado itself was charming. We enjoyed walking around Orange Ave. and back to the beach. The Pacific Ocean was beautiful, the sky cloudless, the sand fine and soft. But the water was icy cold. Of course my swimmer girl still couldn’t resist. And Dave thought the waves looked too good to pass up. So they braved the cold together.
Like father, like daughter. Body surfing in the cold water. They said that once your skin goes numb, you don’t mind the cold. I’ll just take their word for it.
Luie decided it was more fun to play in the sand. He is trying to dig a trench from the water back to our blankets on the beach. Fortunately he didn’t make it that far.
This is as far as Luie would go into the water.
Dave and Summer were shivering quite a bit when they got out of the water. Summer decided it was warmer lying on the hot sand. And when Luie wanted to bury Summer’s feet, she was happy to agree.
The weather at the beach was a comfortable 74 degrees with a cool breeze. It felt refreshing after the intense desert sun. Which is why we all ended up with pink skin. We couldn’t feel the heat like we do in Arizona.
Coronado beach is nice, but I would not have rated it as high as Dr. Beach. The water was just too cold. But I will say, that the sand was heavenly! So soft and fine that I was tempted to bring a tub of sand home just to run my feet through it, Ahhhh!
yeah the water down there is only 5 degrees warmer than the water up here. It’s still pretty cold. 🙂 A day at the beach is always fun!
The sand does look perfect.
Great fun. Bill’s Dad built the Sea and Air Golf Course for the Navy on Coronado. Bill’s Mom and Dad are one with the ocean there. Lots of memories.
